Detailed description of St. Andrews Golf & Country Club - Joe Jemsek

St. Andrews Golf & Country Club is a Public, 36 hole golf facility located in West Chicago, Illinois. The facility has two regulation eighteen hole courses. The St. Andrews Course and The Joe Jemsek Course (formerly The Lakewood Course).

The Joe Jemsek Course first opened for play in 1929. The course was designed by Edward B. Dearie.

The Joe Jemsek Course offers a more hilly terrain than that of the St. Andrews course. This course perfectly blends with the environment and showcases two scenic finishing holes with approaches over water. There are many mature trees lining its fairways, and water hazards come into play on five holes.

The Joe Jemsek course demands carefully planned tee shots when dealing with the long, difficult par 3's. This is especially true considering the 2nd hole, which measures 216 yards from the tips and it's green is guarded by two deep bunkers and towering trees. This course measures 6,770 yards from the championship tees, challenging any avid golfer not only by it's length, but also by it's tree lined fairways and strategically placed sand bunkers.

Architects Joe Lee and Rockey Roqemore of Atlanta have made modifications to St. Andrews over the years to modernize the course to today's standards, but the integrity of the original design still stands.

The two 18 holes offer a change of pace. Each has its own challenges.

the course was in great shape and the watering system down both sides of the fairways have made a big difference. The greens are large and rolling very good. The practice area is the best in the area. It was always considered a short course but with little roll it plays fairly long.

Would travel: 20-30 Miles
Bottom line: I would play again, Better than average course for the area, Fair priced based on quality and competitive area pricing

The course has suffered some rain damage. The greens had been aerated. There isn't a great deal of difficulty until #18 with some hidden water if you draw the ball off the tee too much.

Would travel: 0-10 Miles
Bottom line: I would play again

Very nice traditional golf club. The holes are fair but have elevation changes that make it unique to the area. The greens are very large and quick which makes the place fun, but difficult at the same time. Food in the clubhouse was good and bar staff very friendly. Did not use the range but it look like one of the best I have seen at a public course.

It was a nice course. Regular price was a little high, but well worth the twilight rate.
